Soffit

We had a look at the house again today and noticed that the Soffit had been put on around the Eaves.

Also the gable decorations had been put on.

Rendering

We are having the balcony and entrance to the house rendered, with the rest of the house left as brick finish. We noticed this had been done today.

Brickwork modification

Once we finished the roof vents we went and stood in the back garden to see how they looked. The roof vents looked OK but we had a bit of shock when we noticed that some of the brickwork above the RHS sliding doors had been re-done.

Until then we hadn’t noticed the difference in height between the beam above the LHS door and the beam above the RHS door. Now that the brickwork was being changed so that the bricks were laid vertically, it has made it stand out more. It looks like the beam above the RHS door has been put in half a brick too high and there is quite a large gap between the beam and the door frame.

We are not happy about the difference between the two doors as they look very uneven. We spoke to the Site supervisor to see what was going on with the brickwork at the back of the house. He said that the Brick inspector told the bricklayers to re-lay the brickwork above the RHS door because of the amount of mortar between the beam and the bricks. We pointed out that the beam on the RHS looks half a brick higher than the one on the LHS. He told us that the engineer states the gap required between the doorframe and the beam. The gap will be covered over with a piece of trim. We asked if the LHS would be changed as well to make it the same and he said yes. We are not totally convinced this will happen though as it seems like it will be a lot of work to change the LHS brickwork. We will probably have to seek a second opinion as to whether this is acceptable or not. To us it just doesn’t look right.

Roof Vents

We purchased two Spinaway roof vents and installed them ourselves. These help keep the roof void cool in the summer and expel the moisture in the winter. They were pretty straight forward to install. It was much easier to get up onto the roof with the scaffolding there.

Whilst on the roof we noticed that one of the roof ridge tiles was missing.

We then noticed it must have slid down the back of the roof and was resting in the gutter. We contacted the Site supervisor the next day to make him aware and he said he would get it sorted out.

Roof Tiles

The sarking was installed Wednesday afternoon. The Roofers then started on the roof tiles today and finished this afternoon. We are amazed at how fast and what a good job they did. We Didn't expect them to finish until Friday, very impressed.

The site supervisor said they wanted to get it done in case of bad weather next week.

Site visit

We had a look around inside the house today. Everything is looking good so far. Althought we did notice some of the window frames are slightly damaged in places. We spoke to our Site supervisor about this and he assured us that it will all be put right. It's just one of those things that happens while the building work is going on.

Fascia & Guttering

Went past the house this Monday and the fascia and guttering had been done. We're not sure we have gone with the right colour for the fascia. The fascia went with the original brick we had chosen but its a little light for this brick colour.

We have been researching on the internet, you can paint colourbond but it's not easy and involves multiple coats. Not looking forward to doing that. We shall wait and see if it grows on us.

More brickwork

The brickwork looks like its nearly finished. A few more days should do it. It will be nice to get the roof on so that all the framework on floorboard can stop getting wet from the rain.
